Colorado State University is hiring for a field technician position to manage long-term dryland cropping systems research sites in Eastern Colorado near Sterling and Stratton. The Field Technician will be responsible for all site management, including planting, fertilizing, pest control, and harvesting dryland grain and forage crops. The technician will also be responsible for communicating with collaborating producers, ordering supplies, assisting with data collection, recording data and all field activities, maintaining weather stations, and performing other duties as assigned. This position will require extensive travel across the Central Great Plains to field sites, including hauling equipment using university vehicles. The position would ideally be based out of Akron, Colorado, or another location within the region.
Required skills: Experience hauling and operating field crop planting, spraying, and harvesting equipment. A CDL driver’s license at time of hire or ability to acquire one. Close attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
Preferred: Coursework in soil and crop sciences, agronomy, ecology or related areas and field-based agronomic research and data management experience.
